- 91 - SergioGiorgi Managing Director & Country Chair TotalEnergies I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where I graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with a degree in Civil Engineering. I hold dual nationality as I am also Italian. I have been working in the energy sector for more than 25 years in different countries incuding Argentina, France, Scotland, Italy, Thailand, Indonesia and Libya. Since January 2022, I have been living in Oman. My career has focused mainly on the exploration and production branch of energy, but I have also had exposure to the downstream, gas and power and renewables sectors, including solar, wind, hydrogen and lithium. I originally started in engineering and operational positions, later moving to corporate strategy, business development, asset management, mergers and acquisitions, investor relations and trading. I even enjoyed opening a corporate venture fund from scratch and learning how to interact with the start-up ecosystem. I hold several board positions and I am advisor to two start-ups: one in the waste-to-energy sector and the other using artificial intelligence and UAVs. Since January 2022, I have been Country Chair for TotalEnergies in Oman, where I am deploying a broad multi-energy strategy based on growth, decarbonisation and diversification. Overseeing such ambition is very energising as we are transforming the company at the same time as the society within the host country. Indeed, our agenda includes diversification into green energies and decarbonisation of our activities to reduce the footprint of our operations in the environment as we intend to achieve our pledges of net zero by 2050 and help our host country to achieve theirs. We need to do that in a safe and sustainable way while keeping a pioneering mindset and being result-oriented. This first year in Oman was very important and successful, as we managed define and action a clear roadmap and even achieve solid first results, showing that our future here could be very encouraging. I attribute this success to hard work, support from my inner circle and being able to convey my vision to an excellent team that knows how to deliver. I always look for ways of expanding my vision. I learn from other peers, other industries and even from those who want to disrupt our business. I am okay with failure provided we fail quick and safely and we learn from mistakes. In my daily work I combine time focusing on the bottom line with time spent looking into developing new projects and testing new ideas. I also dedicate some time to my board positions (I am on the board of Petroleum Development Oman, the biggest Oman oil producer, and Oman LNG, the biggest Oman liquified gas exporter) and other ancillary aspects like being on the board of the Omani French Friendship Association, French economic counsellor in Oman and advisor of the aforementioned startups.
