SERGIO GIORGI Country Chair Oman for TotalEnergies I hail from Buenos Aires, Argentina, and hold dual nationality with Italy. With an engineering degree from Buenos Aires University, I’ve spent over 27 years navigating the energy sector across various countries, including Argentina, France, Scotland, Italy, Thailand, Indonesia, Libya, and presently, Oman, a wonderful country with wonderful people. My career has primarily revolved around exploration and production, along with experience in downstream operations, gas, power, and renewables like solar, wind, hydrogen, and lithium. Starting in engineering and operational roles, I transitioned to strategic positions like business development, asset management, mergers and acquisitions, and even initiated a corporate venture fund, gaining insight into the start-up ecosystem. As the Country Chair for TotalEnergies in Oman since January 2022, my focus has been on a comprehensive strategy for growth, decarbonization, and diversification. We’re committed to aligning our goals with societal and environmental needs, including achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, in sync with Oman’s aspirations. Our first year in Oman laid the groundwork for a promising future. The strategic planning led to tangible outcomes, and in our second year, we witnessed increased oil and gas production, reduced emissions, notable discoveries, license extensions, expanded trading, and advancements in renewables. It has been indeed a wonderful year. I believe in continuous learning, drawing insights from industry peers, various sectors, and embracing failures as learning experiences. Beyond daily responsibilities, I serve on the boards of Petroleum Development Oman and Oman LNG, contribute to the Oman-French friendship association, hold the role of French economic counsellor in Oman, and advise 2 startups in the area of waste to energy and Internet of things plus artificial intelligence-based solutions for the industry. Balancing leadership, governance roles, and personal development, I stay informed about industry trends. My journey reflects a commitment to innovation, sustainability, and collaborative growth—a testament to the evolving energy landscape and my aspiration is leaving the future generations a better place to live.
