Founded in 1998 through a strategic partnership between ADNOC and Borealis, Borouge was formed to build and operate a petrochemical complex in Al Ruwais Industrial City, United Arab Emirates, with a sales and marketing business in Singapore. Borouge started production in 2001 with 450,000 tonnes per year and in 2010 Borouge tripled its annual production capacity to 2 million tonnes. In 2015 Borouge increased its annual capacity to 4.5 million tonnes, increasing it to 5 million tonnes in 2022. The company is planning to achieve 6.4 million tonnes by 2025, a 14-fold increase in overall capacity since its first production.
