CEO Today - Global Awards 2022

hmed Detta is an entrepreneur with a mission – to raise recycling rates through changing the behavioural habits of society when it comes to recycling on the go. He advocates that we need infrastructures in place to establish a positive relationship with plastic. His company Enviroo promotes responsible recycling which creates unity amongst all circular economy stakeholders, ensuring that 100% of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) plastic is recycled. Based in the UK, the company uses PET plastic to create ‘food-grade’ polymers, which are then used to recreate food packaging and plastic bottles. Enviroo’s closed-loop recycling method offers long-term viability and ensures transparency, circularity and sustainability thus encouraging commitment from all stakeholders. Operating their own PET recycling facilities, Enviroo engages and unites all stakeholders in the recycling journey – offering a solution to single-use plastic. The company works with a plastic stream which impacts everyone and enables collaboration with government agencies, FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) brands, consumers and charities. Enviroo is committed to create social impact improvements and currently researching how a deposit return scheme can be designed to enable social impact. The focus will be assessing the feasibility of a deposit return scheme where paybacks are transferred to help rough sleepers fund food purchases and hostel accommodation. The Enviroo recycling process follows five key steps. PET plastic is first collected by Local Authorities or Waste Operators and purchased by Enviroo for processing. It then processes the plastic waste through a wash line which produces flakes. These flakes are then transferred to an extruder which turns them into polymers. These polymers are used to create premoulds for bottles by manufacturers. The pre-moulds are then blown into bottles – ready for distribution and client consumption! The recycling process is infinite. With over 13 years of professional experience in the sustainability, recycling and advanced technology sectors in the UK, Singapore and the Middle East, Ahmed’s goal is to make plastic recycling habitual for everyone and to instil the belief that profiteering from this process is good for everyone involved! He has studied at Cambridge University and Lancaster University and has also completed an Executive MBA with the Quantic School of Business and Technology. Before founding Enviroo, Ahmed has completed a feasibility programme for a recycling plant in the Middle East, set up two recycling facilities focussing on electronics as well completing several global cross-country plastic waste trade deals. Enviroo is an example for a company that is a force for good, showing us that sustainability and profitability can co-exist! The future is definitely looking bright for Ahmed and Enviroo! 56 www. ceotodaymagazine . com CEO Today Gl oba l Awa rds 202 2 CEO & Founde r, Envi roo Ahmed Detta A Ahmed’s goal is to make plastic recycling habitual for everyone and to instil the belief that profiteering from this process is good for everyone involved!
